WHY THE CHARITY DRIVE
This charity drive campaign came about after a series of serious meetings with the cream dela crème, the founding fathers of triple diamond society…..We thought to ourselves from fancy cars and expensive clothes to fine dining, exotic vacations and of course THE DRIVES, there are many ways we can spend our hard earned money. And there is nothing wrong with rewarding yourself for a job well done — but what would happen if you rewarded someone else instead? So, we sat our team down at one of our meet ups in Lukenya and told them the motive to raise money for charity and have a charity drive. After some discussion and a public vote, the children’s home we decided to support was Chombo Cha Upendo home, which is a Christian, non-profit, non-political, non-governmental organization registered on March 28th, 1996, in Nairobi, Kenya, working with orphaned and vulnerable Children.
This was our first charity run we had a target to raise about 100K, AND WE HIT THE TARGET! Yes we have had challenges here and there raising money, but, nothing dampened my able committee and the entire TDSKe’s spirit. We did soldier on and we think we have finally settled on a children’s home that we would love to dash to at least once or twice a year.
You see, While the concept that giving to others can make you feel good about yourself is not revolutionary, there are several more subtle ways that giving your money or time for a cause can benefit your psychological, spiritual and emotional well-being. What myself as an individual believe towards giving is that the act of helping others can create an improved sense of well-being. Knowing that you sacrificed something such as time, finances or property in order to help others in need can give you a sense of purpose in life or work and inner satisfaction.
